FFH – One Silent Night

One Silent Night

The pop group FFH has been a long-standing power group in CCM.  The original quartet has been primarily paired down now to the Deibler’s – Jeromy and Jennifer.  “One Silent Night” is the group’s first Christmas release and according to the press release it has been 4 years in the making.

The CD features a combination of traditional songs and some new songs in a more pop-vocal sound.  For example, “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” has a classical Christmas sound and the new song, “The Birthday of the King,” has a more contemporary sound.  The later has a big choir like chorus and a contemporary worship service feel.  It is just on of the three new songs written specifically for “One Silent Night.”  The other two originals are “One Silent Night” and “Glorious Impossible.”

The album overall, has a nice relaxed feeling with moments of zeal – like “Jingle Bell Rock.”  It is a mix of classic and contemporary.  The only song I would have left out is the somewhat suggestive (and manipulative) “Baby It’s Cold Outside.”  Not sure how that found its way at the start of the CD or as one of their lead singles.  It pales in comparison to the meaning and depth of their new single “One Silent Night,” which I think is more fitting of a song for the season.
