Smalltown Poets Christmas
Smalltown Poets
It has been over 10 years since I have seen or heard from the group Smalltown Poets and their return is now marked by an impressive Christmas release. I recall first seeing them live and being blown away by their stage presence.
There was nothing small about that show and there is nothing small about their latest offering. Over a year in the making, the band has put a lot of effort into this new album. They easily could have returned to the scene by recording a handful of traditional holiday songs, but instead they have crafted a phenomenal 14-track celebration of Christ’s birth.
The album includes traditional holiday favorites like “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “Silent Night,” and “We Three Kings.” They also include some more upbeat tunes like “St Nick Is Alright,” and a contemporary arrangement of “Good Christian Men Rejoice.” There is an interesting instrumental of “We Three Kings”… played backwards. And one of the most outstanding songs vocally is “On Christmas Day.” The album closes with a joyful salutation – “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
“Smalltown Poets Christmas” is a remarkable project and a superb return of an iconic CCM group. For more on Smalltown Poets new Christmas CD check out their official website at http://smalltownpoetschristmas.com/.
