New Kid On The Block-Bridget KinderGinny Owens is a most recent addition to the crew at Rocketown Records, which is headed by the infamous Michael W. Smith. Her current album, "Without Condition," is her first release. When asked where she came up with this title, her answer was simple. She bases her life around the theme that God's Grace comes without condition, hence the name of the title. It was refreshing to see an artist who composes her own music, writes her own lyrics, and plays her own instrument.
Ginny Owens tried to lead a life as normal as possible while growing up. When asked about her youth, Owens remarked that her mom had her involved in as many things as possible. She lost her sight at the age of 2. She began playing the piano at a very young age and continued through college. One of her first compositions came along around age eight. She pursued her love of music through college, in Nashville at Belmont University where she studied Music Education. Although her hopes of becoming a music teacher did not quite pan out, she has found the path the God seemed to want her on. Her Sarah-McLachlan-like style of writing and angelic voice led her to a contract with Rocketown Records.
Although she is a recent addition to the Christian music industry, Owens has enjoyed much success. In 1999, Owens was invited to play at Nashville's Lilith Fair. Several of her songs were used in soundtracks for television shows such as Roswell. Owens currently holds the 2000 Dove Award for New Artist of the Year.
From the songs that she performed for a well-packed Crossroad's Christian Reformed Church, in Wisconsin, a common favorite was the ballad, "If You Want Me To." The song is something most can relate to in regard to references of a life being dedicated to God's calling if asked.
Ginny Owens has a future as bright as the sun. I look forward to sitting back and watching her career take off.
