The Journey Towards Relevance
Author: Kary Oberbrunner
Relevant Books

Kary Oberbrunner is the founder of Redeem the Day Ministries, and the author of “The Journey Towards Relevance.” As a student ministry leader he knows the importance of being relevant to a particular audience. What differentiates his view from others is that he doesn’t focus on culture, but instead the characteristics of God; most importantly unconditional love.

Kary’s book finely lays out what it means to be relevant through love. It’s a simple book to read, but the challenges it presents are life changing. Reading this book is similar to reading Covey’s “Seven Habits.” You can get a lot of good ideas from either book, but it takes a change in lifestyle to really live them out.

Kary clearly explains the journey of relevance through thematic chapters that build upon each other. At the end of each chapter he also shares a bit of poetry to stimulate thinking. The crux of it all is “balance”, and Kary thoroughly writes practical instructions on how to achieve this balance.

I’ve been taking notes all the way through the book and I was excited to hear that just recently Relevant Books has offered a work book to compliment the full text book.

Kary’s message on relevance can be delivered through a book study, or through Redeem the Day workshops, keynotes, and seminars.

My single mindedness would generally want to plug this book into someone working with high-school or college students, but that would be too minimal. “The Journey Towards Relevance” is an excellent book that I would recommend to anyone struggling to love others as God loves us.
