30CC Interview with Downhere
(Marc, Jason, Glen, and Jeremy)

30CC – The bands most recent project was a DVD – “While the World Was Asleep”. What can you tell us about it?

Glen – The DVD was released just over a year ago. We did a tour up in Canada and a little bit in the states too. We recorded the whole thing, and basically what we wanted to do was tell our story and show what it’s like on the road. It’s a documentary of our road life more than a concert. We hope people can get to know who we are better, because coming to a show you just get to see us play and maybe say hello.

30CC – At one time you guys had a deal with a record label. Since then you’ve gone independent. Is there any interest in joining a label again, or are you going to stay independent?

Jeremy – It really depends. Sometimes there’s an advantage for a band to stay independent, and sometimes the advantage is to sign with a label. For us to be able to come down to Nashville – we’re just poor Canadian bible college students; we needed someone to finance the record for us. So the record label did that and they marketed it all for us. It worked for a little bit and they [the label] were great, but then their priorities switched, and that’s what happens in the industry. It’s been great to have this time here independently to refocus but we’re looking to sign another deal. We really believe in the teamwork approach. We’re musicians, not publicists, marketers, or anything like that. We want to bring people along side to help us do that.

30CC – The band is going to perform for us the song “Stone”. Could you share the story behind the song?

Marc – “Stone” is about our priorities. It’s really tempting as a band to get caught up in the whole “how many people are playing our songs on the radio,” “how many albums have we sold,” and really in the end that doesn’t matter. No one is going to remember after I die how many times they heard our songs on the radio. It’s a redirecting of our focus and stating what’s important to us. [Meaning] what we do with the people we meet on the road, relationships in life, and stuff that has eternal value.
