Just Married is the second book from Margaret Feinberg that I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing, the first being Twentysomething. Interestingly enough, I don’t really fit the demographics of either of these books, but that’s not to say that I didn’t gain something out of reading them. Feinberg has a special gift for imparting simple wisdom in an easy to understand way. Just Married is primarily for the young, traditional married couple. However, even those who have some years behind them, or who may be a blended family could discover helpful bits of information that will reinforce their matrimonial bonds. One thing I particularly liked about Just Married is that Feinberg paints a positive, but realistic picture of a complex venture. Throughout the chapters, Feinberg shares personal experiences of marital differences; communications, finances, “stuff”, sex, selfishness, children, in-laws, and the “bumps in the road”. I found it really interesting that she also included a chapter on health and nutrition, including the importance of meal times together and working out together. Incorporated at the end of each chapter are questions, reflections, and helpful lists. I would highly recommend Just Married for newlyweds and for pre-marital counseling, right up there with Norman Wright. - Ken W. |
