Eowyn Interview

July 15th, 2008

Eowyn’s edgy style of music is quite a charge.  Listen as she talks about her name, her latest release, “Silent Screams,” and her musical aspirations.  Thanks to Megan for interviewing Eowyn!

Nightengale Interview

July 15th, 2008

I had the opportunity to catch a show by this band and it was amazing!  The band is from Fairbanks, Alaska and their piano driven rock was very cool.

Best Of Lifest 2008

July 13th, 2008

I was thinking on the way home about what I liked most about Lifest this year.  I realized that it’s an extreme pleasure to be able to meet and interview the artists.  Several times I walked by the lengthy lines of kids waiting for a one minute meet and greet.  Some of these kids are waiting in line for more than an hour just to get an autograph and say hello to their favorite artist.

Best in Show

Steven Curtis Chapman – Hands down the most moving part of the whole festival.

Nightengale – The greatest show I nearly did not see!

Jonathan Rundman – A good lesson in music history and the lost art of the hymnal.

John Cooper (Skillet) – Most entertaining interview in the media trailer.

Bradley Hathaway – Listening to his CD on the way home turned out to be an real inspiration – wait for the review.

Lifest 2008 – Day 4

July 13th, 2008

After a slow start the day took off with an unintended theme, that being the “leading” ladies of CCM.

The first show of the day was  Woods and then Rebecca St. James on the Grandstand.  Her two brothers joined her on stage as they have been through the SHE tour.  Later in the evening I saw both Illia, an all girl rock outfit, and Eowyn.  As I was watching Eowyn’s show I was thinking there is finally something to fill the void of the now defunct The Benjamin Gate.  Awesome live show and quite theatrical.  Eowyn shared the gospel with vigor as she transitioned from song to song.  The only curious thing was why such a dark half-goth look?  The stage was really dark and the shadows purposely fell on her face keeping her in the dark most of the time.  I guess that’s just a part of the show, like the makeup and coffin like guitar cases.

Saddest Day…

July 13th, 2008

I’m home now.  It’s 3am Sunday morning.  After going back to my tent and watching it blow dramatically from side-to-side, I decided to pack everything up and leave after Eowyn’s set.  It was a little after midnight when I left Oshkosh.  However, the fact that I am home is not the sad part.

The sad part is that as I was resting, waiting for the last two shows of the night, I overheard a woman complaining about a t-shirt that a young girl was wearing.  The t-shirt was from an anti-abortion web site.  Anyway, the older woman was complaining about the festival not having both sides!  She said, “there are some Christians who believe in pro-choice.”  That to me was the saddest thing I heard all week.  In a festival full of life and light there was complete and udder darkness as well.  It’s too early in the am to get into the depth of the subject, but I found that statement to be disheartening.

Aside from that the last two shows I saw for the night (Lex Rex & Eowyn) went real well.  I plan to write some follow ups and get more pictures on line, but for now, I need some sleep!

Slow Day

July 12th, 2008

Hey!

It’s been a particularly slow day so far.  I spent much of the morning hanging around the media trailer.  This morning John Cooper (Skillet) stopped in as well as the whole gang of Casting Crowns.  Then later on I set up an interview with Eowyn and that went well.  Right after she left John Reuben came through and we all just had a chat session.

Most of the action (for me) starts later tonight.  Starting with Rebecca St. James and then over to the Pit stage for Illia, Rex Lex, and Eowyn.  After that I may catch a little bit of Skillet’s show, but I’m packed and ready to drive home.  It’s a long drive – about 3hrs, but I want to be home.  No more sleeping in a tent!

More pictures to come.  I’ll try to get a full gallery set up once I get home.

Peace,
Ken

The Skinny on the De-Cafe Cafe Stage

July 12th, 2008

I got the skinny on why the Cafe stage is caffeine free… local festival regulations restrict the selling of beverages on gravel/dirt floors.  The Cafe stage is a tent in the middle of a parking lot and on gravel – therefore they can not serve open beverages or food there.  Makes sense.  Except that I would have put the Cafe in a different location then where you could server coffee.

Eowyn

I’m hoping to meet up with Eowyn today for an interview and to see her live.  The youtube video gives you an idea of what she is like live, but the quality is not that great.
