Critically-acclaimed Hip Hop Artist Steven Malcolm Reveals Video To Title Track For Forthcoming Album “The Second City”

FULL-LENGTH ALBUM DROPPING JANUARY 25, 2019
WITH 4 AGAINST 5, A DIVISION OF CURB | WORD ENTERTAINMENT
“Not since Lecrae has Christian hip-hop experienced an innovator and entertainer to the degree of Steven Malcolm.”  (CCM Magazine)
January 10, 2019 (Nashville, Tenn.)–  Hip Hop artist Steven Malcolm has over 15 million on demand streams, over 4.7 million YouTube views, has been heard on ESPN and most recently Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s NBC show “The Titan Game”, and today Malcolm premiered his brand new music video for “The Second City” on his YouTube Channel. The video has already received an outpour of support and has been added into rotation on REVOLT TV and BET JAMS. This new track is available to purchase across all digital platforms and is the title track of his forthcoming sophomore album available on Friday, January 25, 2019.

The Second City is a 15-track vulnerable look into Malcolm’s own journey to find his true identity. Dedicated to his father who immigrated from Montego Bay, Jamaica, nicknamed, “The Second City.” At the age of 10, his father was deported back to Jamaica by U.S. authorities where he later passed away leaving Malcolm fatherless and with a broken heart. Yet, it was through being without a father, he found his personal truth and his calling to music.

“With this record, I wanted to tap back into my heritage,” explains Malcolm. “My father was from Montego Bay and while he was absent for most of my life, it was his absence that led me to finding calling to music, inspire others and ultimately my true identity. I found my second life and for that I am eternally grateful; so I wanted to dedicate this album to my dad.”

The album is a musical and cinematographic representation of this young man’s journey in search for his true self. Reality is portrayed lyrically like never before – the battles, the dark valleys, failures, to ultimately showcase the redemptive light that conquers the darkness life throws at every individual.

Stylistically, Malcolm took a different approach, merging hip hop with reggae and inspo, all genres that have played an integral role in his life. From embracing his Jamaican roots with a powerful cover of Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song”, to his hit single “Fuego (Feat. Anderson Michael)”, the video in which has already accumulated over 1 million views and many others, making it appealing to fans of Chance the Rapper, Lecrae and Tori Kelly.

The album was produced by a collection of producers including Dirty Rice, JuiceBangers, Joseph Prielozny, Taylor Hill, Scootie, Mykallife, Anthony M. Jones, Steven Franks, Jacob Cardec, and Charles Anderson, the project was recorded from coast to coast in Nashville, Atlanta and Los Angeles.

A RAGAMUFFIN BENEFIT FOR RICK ELIAS: THE JESUS RECORD LIVE CONCERT EVENT TO HELP DEFRAY MEDICAL EXPENSES FOR CCM LEGEND

February 2, 2019 Concert in Franklin, Tennessee, to Feature Rick Elias, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, The Ragamuffin Band and More
The Jesus Record will be performed live for the first time in 21 years during the upcoming concert event, A Ragamuffin Benefit for Rick Elias: The Jesus Record Live, which is slated for February 2, 2019 in Franklin, Tennessee. (Poster design by Chuck Hargett)
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (January 9, 2019) Contemporary Christian music legend Rick Elias, a founding member of A Ragamuffin Band, was recently diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Friends and colleagues have banded together to produce a benefit concert designed to help defray the enormous expenses associated with the treatment of his insidious disease.
A Ragamuffin Benefit for Rick Elias: The Jesus Record Live concert event, which is slated for February 2, 2019, at Christ Community Church in Franklin, Tennessee, is an opportunity for friends and fans of the award-winning singer/songwriter and producer to gather, raise money for his medical expenses, and hear The Jesus Record performed live in its entirety. The concert will feature performers from the original recording, including Elias, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, A Ragamuffin Band (Elias, Mark Robertson, Jimmy Abegg, and Aaron Smith), and more. Even the sound engineer, concert producers, graphic artist, select session players and others who contributed to the original album are donating their time for this significant evening.   The historic Jesus Record was scheduled to be the ninth release by the late Rich Mullins (1955-1997). When Mullins met an untimely death, his foundation, band, and record company determined to move forward with recording the project in Rich’s honor with guest artists who were his friends. The project included two discs; Disc One–the nine rough song demos recorded by Mullins, and Disc Two–the studio version of the same songs, produced by Rick Elias. The Jesus Record was released on July 23, 1998. Shortly thereafter, A Ragamuffin Band toured the U.S., featuring music from The Jesus Record on their Homeless Man Tour.
“Earlier this year, I received a diagnosis that turned my world upside down,” Elias confesses. “Nevertheless, we remain in God’s faithfulness. My family and I are so thankful for the community that has rallied around us during this time. We are really looking forward to performing The Jesus Record live for the first time in 21 years.”     “It was a privilege to work with Rick and the Ragamuffins 21 years ago when we recorded The Jesus Record at Myrrh Records,” says former Myrrh Records Vice President/General Manager Jim Chaffee, one of the organizers of the event. “And it’s an honor to join with everyone again to celebrate this great project and help our friend Rick. How appropriate that music focused on our Savior continues to bring us together and offer healing in our time of need.”   “We are all ragamuffins,” adds Loren Balman, former President, Word Entertainment Label Group and one of the event’s organizers. “Aside from being an extraordinary friend, Rick has taught me much about life, love, and laughter. No matter the storm, Rick continues to point us all towards Jesus.”   Tickets to A Ragamuffin Benefit for Rick Elias: The Jesus Record Live concert event may be purchased online at eventbrite.com/e/the-jesus-record-live-a-ragamuffin-benefit-for-rick-elias-tickets-54243200874?aff=erellivmlt.    All proceeds from the event will go toward medical treatment for Elias’s brain cancer. Those who are unable to attend the concert can still support this worthy cause by making a generous donation to the Rick Elias Medical Expenses GoFundMe campaign. Legendary singer/songwriter and producer Rick Elias is perhaps best known as a founding member of A Ragamuffin Band, formed by the late Rich Mullins in the early 1990s. Elias performed with Mullins until his untimely death in September 1997.

At the request of Mullins’s family, estate, and record label, Elias resumed the production of his posthumous release, The Jesus Record, which went on to win two Dove Awards, and produced two Number 1 hit radio singles, “My Deliverer” (performed by Elias) and “Nothing Is Beyond You” (performed by Amy Grant).
Elias is a respected producer in both the contemporary Christian and mainstream recording industries, working with such artists as Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, and Aaron Neville, to name just a few.

Elias burst onto the national consciousness when his music was featured in hit motion pictures, including the enormously popular My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Tom Hanks’ directorial debut, That Thing You Do!, as well as in television shows, including Dawson’s Creek.

In addition, Elias’s work has received awards and nominations from the Gospel Music Association, The United Catholic Music and Video Association, and the Nashville Music Awards. His debut solo album, Rick Elias & the Confessions, was voted by CCM Magazine as one of “100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music.”

UPPERROOM RELEASES FIRST FULL-LENGTH ALBUM, TO THE ONE, FEB. 22,

PLUS THIRD EP, MOMENTS: COLOR 003, THIS FRIDAY, JAN. 11

Album Captures Anthems Birthed In Prayer Room,

Including Popular Worship Song “Surrounded (Fight My Battles)”

With Never-Before-Released Verses

EP Features Raw, Spontaneous Prayer Room Moments

UPPERROOM independently releases its fourth recording and first full-length album, To The One, Feb. 22, as well as releases its third EP, Moments: Color 003, this Friday, Jan. 11. Both recordings will be distributed globally through The Fuel Music.

The new full-length recording captures nine anthems that have inspired not only the members of UPPERROOM, the church in Dallas’ creative Design District that started in 2010, but also millions more around the globe.

The songs on To The One have been uniquely curated by UPPERROOM’s songwriters as they gathered together to expand melodies and lyrics spontaneously received in the ministry’s Morning/Noon/Night Prayer Room. The new music includes the title track that is meant to magnify the Majesty of Jesus, “Healer,” a song inspired by Psalm 68 that expresses how God heals even in the aftermath of grief, “You and You Alone,” a grateful anthem that breaks through the wiles of tribulation and struggles in our daily lives, and “Washed,” which declares the truth of victory over sin and failure.

“We believe these songs will inspire the Church to gaze solely, in awe and wonder, at Jesus,” says Elyssa Smith, who leads worship at UPPERROOM’s main church campus in Dallas, TX. “As we’ve encountered Him, He’s given us language to minister to Him. He is the One and every song is for Him.”

Another highlight on To The One is “Surrounded (Fight My Battles), ” a song that has already circled the globe, receiving millions of YouTube views after it was initially birthed in UPPERROOM’s Prayer Room. In addition to the album version of the song that includes never-before-released verses, GRAMMY award-winning producer, Seth Mosley (for King & Country, Jeremy Camp), is producing the song for radio, which will be revealed soon. The song has also been recorded by Michael W. Smith and sung by him live on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

“‘Surrounded’ began to reveal to me the Power of the finished work of the cross; how our way of fighting the battles we face is by thanking Him that He has already overcome and that Jesus alone is our victory,” shares Elyssa, who wrote and leads the song as well as “After You” on the new recording.

The full To The One track listing follows:

1.    “Healer (feat. Hanna Sheets)”

2.    “You and You Alone (feat. Cody Ray Lee, Meredith Mauldin, Kelly Smith, Jonathan Jay)”

3.    “Washed (feat. Brett Bell)”

4.    “Surrounded (Fight My Battles) [feat. Elyssa Smith]

5.    “Holy Spirit (feat. Joel Figueroa)”

6.    “Faith and Wonder (feat. Abbie Simmons, Cody Lee, Meredith Andrews) “

7.    “After You (feat. Elyssa Smith)”

8.    “To The One (feat. Meredith Mauldin, Oscar Gamboa, Beau Maddox)”

9.    “Thank You (feat. Meredith Mauldin)”

In addition to To The One, UPPERROOM’s next EP, Moments: Color 003, features spontaneous moments recorded in the Prayer Room. While the songs on To The One capture the essence of each song birthed in the Prayer Room, the new EP is meant to be more of a raw, unedited live recording that invites the listener into the Prayer Room experience.

“Our heart behind the ‘Moments EPs’ is to capture our ‘in’ with the Lord,” explains Elyssa. “As a community, we at UPPERROOM use the language of the ‘In and Out Lifestyle.’ This simply means: we come IN to the Prayer Room to minster to the Lord and in turn, He sends us OUT to minister to the world. We believe as people listen to these EPs, they will be invited in to His presence and transformed by Him.”

The full Moments: Color 003 track listing follows:

1)    “Shepherd (feat. Cody Ray Lee)”

2)    “Color (feat. Elyssa Smith)”

3)    “Rest (feat. Oscar Gamboa)”

4)    “The Father’s Song (feat. Elyssa Smith)”

5)    “The One We Love – You Are Holy (feat. Elyssa Smith, Joel Figueroa)”

About UPPERROOM:

Called to gather the Lord’s people daily for corporate worship, praise, thanksgiving, adoration and intercession through song and scripture, UPPERROOM opened its doors without much fanfare. Today, people around the globe are singing their songs and around 100 vocalists, songwriters and musicians contribute their talents to leading people in worship three times a day, six days a week.

Although UPPERROOM has been leading people in worship and prayer for eight years, it was only recently that they began to release their music to the culture at large. Last year, UPPERROOM released the acclaimed Moments EP, a collection of live ‘moments’ recorded during spontaneous worship in the Prayer Room. The songs showcase instances of authenticity and surrender and are a poignant snapshot of what’s been taking place behind closed doors in Dallas for some time. It’s just that, now, the world is taking notice.
