Karen Johnson (Audience Member, 18yrs Old)
Post Matthew Turner Presentation

Ken - What did you think about Matthew's presentation?

Karen - I really liked it because it made me think. It's just interesting to put things into perspective. I'm the type of person who views my mind as a riddle. It's really easy to be taken away by certain things, especially the media and just in general life. It's neat to hear what other people think because it makes me think harder and better myself as a Christian.

Ken - Were there points you disagreed with?

Karen - Not so much disagreements with, but I had some points that I wanted to add in. It's just the Bruce Almighty thing (a topic of panel discussion). There parts I saw that I didn't like. I thought that it was sort of mocking on God. I can't remember exactly what the guy said but he said something about how splitting the sea is just magic. It's not just magic. That is a miracle.

I just think there is a fine line when you're crossing over. Something when it's not religious enough, but who am I to speak. I do things that are not religious too. It's easier to judge than to follow what you're saying.

Ken - What do you think about some of the bands that are crossing over from Christian to mainstream?

Karen - I'm not sure exactly what the song was, but Sixspence None the Richer, when I heard they were going to be here I was surprised. Because some of their songs that were on the mainstream radio were more like guy-girl relationships, not towards God. My thing with Christian music is that I come to this concert because I want to feel connected. I want to come to a place where I can be pulled back in to my relationship with God. So when I hear music that really isn't triggering my heart to the Lord it just doesn't work for me.

Ken - Growing up have your parents been involved with your entertainment choices?

Karen - Yes. My mom and I were just talking about that actually. I think I was raised very well. My parents and I are Seventh Day Adventist [and] I grew up pretty strict. When I got into high school I was pulled down and I got into things I shouldn't have gotten involved in. I realize that now but I had to learn the hard way. They raised me strict in the beginning and now I can look back at that and I hope I can do that with my kids. They were lenient in areas where I'm glad they were because how else would I have learned. Now that I've learned first hand I can reach out to those people who have fallen too.

Ken - What do you think of Lifest this year?

Karen - I like it a lot, and I liked Third Day last night. Third Day was definitely my highlight and the mud was the low-light.
