Lifest 2005

Day 1 - Thursday, July 7th

It's 9:00am and the car is packed.. and I mean packed! Just finished breakfast with the fam and I should be on the road within minutes.

Camp180 plus miles later, and I'm here (1:00pm - ish). Setting up camp is a challenge by yourself, but no quitting, no backing down, besides I have to have somewhere to sleep.

RoperAfter setting up camp I wandered on over to the Press room to see what was on the schedule for the day. Jamie was in the media room already.. waiting for the days festivities to start. Rese Roper stopped in with his band for a chat. The big question was, "when is the next Brave Saint Saturn CD coming out", and he tells me the songs are written so now they just have to record, then it's still up in the air as to how it will get distributed, either independently or with a label.

After Roper, Mercy Me stopped in to record some "liners" for the radio stations on hand. I took a moment to talk to Barry (guitar) and to give him a picture of he and Toby Mac from a few years ago.

18-3I really couldn't waist much more time in the press room. So I went out to see some bands. Starting with Children 18:3, a hard core band from the MN area that's headed up by a brother and sister, and one other member on drums.

From Children 18:3 I went on to see Roper play.. man Rese likes to fool around a lot.. he was having a lot of fun singing "Welcome to the Jungle."

Hey, have you heard about Fishfest? It's going to be in Waukesha this summer (August). I'll be looking for more info to put on the site as it comes to me. I just heard about it in the press room.

RSJAwhile back I found an Evie song book at a used bookstore, and I remembered that Rebecca St. James and she had a personal connection. So I bought up the book and gave it to her today. She seemed sincerely happy to have it. I was really nervous talking to her because I didn't want to come across as some uber-fan-tool. I caught her on state later that night.. what a great show.. and what a voice.

TobyMacAfter the St. James show I wandered around, caught a little bit of Toby Mac and Poor Man's Riches. I was basically waiting time waiting around for Superchic(k) to start their show at 11:30pm... yeah, it's really that late already.

SuperchickThe Superchic(k) show rocked, but I didn't stay for it all.. from my tent though I could hear them finishing up with the title track from Beauty From Pain.

So that's the short story of day one at Lifest 2005. Lots of good pictures, a lot of talking, and a whole lot of walking. Time to crash.. and watch the Logan Show DVD that I was given today. I love giveaways!

Peace,
Ken
