Who Are We?

The Edge 2000
November 3 - 4
Madison, WI
-Ken Wiegman

Busloads of children swarmed the Alliant Energy Center Coliseum this fine November weekend for a Gala event. Audio Adrenalin, Jeff Deyo, Supertones, Polarboy, Shaded Red, speakers Dawson McAllister and Randy Ruiz, plus local artist and awesome skits, interactions, and giveaways.

The bands performed their hearts out on stage. Encouraging the kids to worship and praise God. Several band members shared personal testimonies with the crowd. Josh (17) and Amanda (18) who were enjoying the show together commented that it was great to see people giving their lives to Christ. Josh, sporting and Audio Adrenalin hat, picked Audio A as his favorite for the weekend. Amanda described Jeff Deyo as an "amazing" worship artist.

After the Saturday night show members from Polarboy hung around to sign autographs. Polarboy has been touring relentlessly for the last four years. I asked guitarist Joe Nawrocki to compare the large crowd of Madison to a past show in Dubuque Iowa where they performed for about 40 kids from a Christian Youth Group. Nawrocki stated that there was "more energy in a large crowd", but the small crowd is "more personal". The band feels comfortable playing either way.

Speakers Dawson, and McAllister delivered a message of faith and commitment to a Godly life. McAllister was speaking on Saturday night, November 4th, on his 11th Wedding Anniversary. Both speakers invited the kids to come forward and give their lives to Christ. The numbers of kids that came forward and made the commitment were phenomenal.

One of the most amazing details of the event was the fact that it was free. This is the second year there has been such an event in Madison. Although last year, it was not titled "The Edge." There are plans to continue the tradition next year.
