![]() ‘Bout It Willie Norwood Atlantic Records Sometimes it’s just odd to use the word “debut,” as is the case with Willie Norwood’s solo debut “’Bout It.” “’Bout It” marks the first time Norwood has taken front stage but he is no stranger to the music industry. In the 70’s Norwood was a lead singer and trumpeter for a soul band. Additionally, Norwood is the father of superstar daughter Brandy and son Ray J. His wife and manager, Sonja, along with plugs from Brandy finally convinced Atlantic Records to listen and take a chance on him. “‘Bout It” has a family theme, including a duo with Brandy on “A Love Shared,” a song about a healthy bond between father and daughter. Additionally Ray J. and W.T. Norwood join in the mix with “Have Thine Own Way,” which starts off as a traditional hymn with W.T. doing a solo with piano accompaniment then breaking into the harmonious pop duo of Ray J and Willie Norwood. Willie Norwood penned “All That I Need,” a tribute to his wife and their enduring marriage. Although “‘Bout It” consist of mainly gospel remakes, Norwood adds a fresh twist with his soulful vocals. Add to that the support team of The Williams Brothers, Brandy, and Ray J., “‘Bout It” is bound to do well in gospel and urban markets. -Ken W. |
