MadCity Worship is a modern praise CD filled with catchy lyrics and funky rhythms that make you want to clap your hands and shout for joy. The songs depict a fiery passion for praising God. "Wonder Of Your Love" is a standout track that inspires an awe of GodÕs power and grace. There are some softer tunes like "Take Me Down," and "Best Kept Secret" that are focused on Christ, and are suitable for Sunday morning service. Finishing out the CD is a song called "I Give It All To You." This song has three short lines with a huge statement, "all glory and honor to God; He alone is worthy to be praised."

How did the project begin?

When MCC started, the worship leading was done mostly by Joe (Steinke), with the CD band (minus Cort Howard) backing him up. Angie (Steinke) would play congas. During that first couple/three years we were writing songs, and dreaming of recording them. Shortly after that, I began moving into more of a worship leader role, and then in August of '99 I came on staff as the worship pastor. An opportunity arose with a producer that now goes to our church to record, and we jumped at it. This CD is pretty much a chronicle of the songs that were written in the beginning of the church.

What is the goal of the project?

I guess the goal was just to chronicle the songs that had been written. They're good songs, so we just wanted to get a CD made. WeÕve also got vision to record many CD's, and to be a resource for other songwriters that call Mad City Church their home to record their songs. The first fruits of the CD (the first $10,000 in sales did go to fund a trip to Russia to minister in orphanages and prisons).

Do you have a favorite on the CD?

Not really, but if I had to pick one, it'd probably be "Wait." It's got the best mix, I think, and just seems to have a nice sound.

Are there any plans for a follow up CD?

Absolutely. Joe & I are planning a double CD of devotional songs, probably in 2 separate CD's as opposed to a double CD. Beyond that, I'm sure there'll be others. This one just took so long, that we're enjoying being done for a while before starting again.

Could you tell me a little bit about each of the players? Like their involvement in the Church and community.

Joe & I are both full time pastors with Mad City. I'm the worship & arts pastor, and Joe is the outreach & discipleship pastor. Angie is Joe's wife, and they both have their hands full with 5 kids from ages 15 down to 2. My wife & I have 3 kids, 9, 4, and 1. Cort is the main drummer for Mad City's worship on Sundays. He was recently married to Margaret who performed some vocals on the CD and is the main lead piano/keyboard player for Mad City's Sunday worship. Joel is a local entrepreneur. He started a food cart that operates on the library mall of the UW Madison campus. He's the main lead guitar player for Mad City's Sunday worship.
