Big Blue Sky
Bebo Norman
Watershed

Bebo Norman a Georgia native, was originally on a path towards becoming a Doctor. While studying Biology in college, Bebo started playing at Young Life camps. The friends he made at these camps encouraged him to build on his musical talents, and after graduating, Bebo began a successful independent career with the release of "The Fabric of Verse." Eventually Bebo was signed to Watershed Records, an off shoot of Essential founded by Cliff Young of Caedmon's Call. His first Release on Watershed, "Ten Thousand Days", debuted at #3 on the Internet Sales Chart ahead of the Backstreet Boys and Sarah MacLachlan.

Now comes "Big Blue Sky", a more mature and progressive production. This album is an accumulation of musical growth for Bebo. There is more of a pop sound with layers of guitars and drums. Still, through this evolution, Bebo holds true to his grassroots song writing. These songs are very real, personal, deep, and easy to ponder on.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a story quickly woven out of the songs on this album. A story that is so fitting to my life at this point.

Starting with "Tip of My Heart" I begin to think about the fear and worries of the future, and how God's grace is sufficient as long as I have faith. Matthew 17:20 reads, "You didn't have enough faith, Jesus told them. I assure you, even if you had faith as small as a mustard seed you could say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it would move. Nothing would be impossible." NLT

From there I move on to "Perhaps She'll Wait For Me." A dreamy song about the love God has in store for you. Giving God control of relationships is not easy, but the reward will be love never ending.

These songs lead to the final segment of the story, "You Surround Me." A simple song that speaks of the power of love, and sums up the rewards of having faith and being true to God. 2 Peter 1:6-7 states, "Knowing God leads to self-control. Self-control leads to patient endurance, and patient endurance leads to godliness. Godliness leads to love for other Christians, and finally you will grow to have genuine love for everyone."

This trio of songs provokes the thought process when it comes to relationships. A meaningful reminder of God's timing, which is perfect.

Bebo's gift or writing also comes through in "Underneath" and "Break Me Through." Both of which deal with God's power to break through our sorrow and feelings of emptiness. The overall theme of the album is summed up in one statement.

"Regardless of our circumstances, the sky is still blue and God is still God." - Bebo Norman
