By all outward appearances things appear "bright" for Cindy Morgan. With six albums, twelve #1 radio hits, six Dove Awards including New Artists of the Year in 1993, and another Dove for Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year (for a song she wrote for Rachael Lampa called "Blessed"). Cindy has also written hits for Michael W. Smith, Michelle Tumes, Sandi Patty, and BeBe Winans. On the inside, Cindy suffered from anxiety and fear, believing that God hated the world and she should too. Cindy's writing reflects some of that pain and grief in her life. So it's good news to hear her sing some of her most inspirational work to date. A couple of events have changed the way Cindy looks at life. One verse, John 3:16, started a revolutionary change in her life, turning her way of thinking around. Secondly and most importantly, the birth of her first child in June of 2000. Cindy and her husband Sigmund Brouwer, were overjoyed with the birth of their daughter. Cindy was quoted as saying, "The way you love a baby is so overwhelming, complete and unconditional that it gives you an idea of how we're loved by God." Elementary expands on that feeling of hope and "sunshine." The album contains much diversity and many intimate feelings. "In These Rooms" is a song about Cindy's childhood. At times, it's a sad arrangement as she shares such a personal moment with a soft, beautiful voice. On the other side of that is "Grape Soda," the Harry Carry impression intro into "Sunshine." "Sunshine" has a Sesame Street like arrangement that is definitely uplifting. Cindy goes on to expand her style with the '40ish style piano bar tune "I Love You," and the light jazz sound of "Believe." These two particular songs help to round out the entire feel-good attitude of Elementary I get two distinct feelings from Elementary. First is the sadness and empathy for the fear that Cindy confronted. Secondly, the joy of knowing there is hope, knowing that Jesus looks through our grief and goes right for our needs and fulfills them.
