My Everything What an amazing story Helen Baylor has to share through her gospel music. As a child, Baylor opened for some of R&B's biggest names, such as Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin, but 12 years after the start of her dream, life became one of pleasing people and using drugs. Finally in 1981, after many of her grandmothers prayers, Helen found Gods loving arms reaching for her and accepted Christ. My Everything, Helen's latest release is, as Baylor says, "The closest album to my heart of any I've recorded." Baylor demonstrates her genre-crossing sound through this album to its fullest extent. From funky to pop to Motown-soul, Baylor's sound brings across her message in an exciting and artistic way. Favorites include: "Lord, You're Holy" because of the contrast of the string introduction and the more electric style of the accompaniment while supporting Baylor's rich tone and her words which bring all praise to God. Also, "How Sweet it is (To be Loved by You)" because of the blending of the well-known secular song and lyrics which talk of Godly love. This is all performed, however, in the most soulful way, and the tune is just as catchy as the original. - Amanda M. |
