Who Are We?

Can You Hear Us?
David Crowder Band
Sixsteps Records

My initial thought was that "Can You Hear Us?" was built on the colossal praise and worship songs that are a product of Passion gatherings such as One Day. Songs like "Our Love Is Loud," "God Of Wrath," and Matt Redman's Undignified instantly hooked me with their anthem like sound. It's easy enough to imagine the effect these songs would have on a large audience.

Had I stopped there though I would have missed the more emotional side of the CD. "My Hope," "Wonderful King," and "Thank You For Hearing Me" (written in part by Sinead O'Connor) are personal calls to worship. I also favor Crowder's remake of "All Creatures Of Our God and King," with it's cathedral - pipe organ sound and if you listen closely you can hear the old but familiar crackle and pop of a vinyl record.

I also want to point out the history of David Crowder himself. David was instrumental in the conception of the University Baptist Church in Waco, TX (1996). From there David began writing songs to help connect and get to know the King of Kings. After which came performances, festivals, and conferences. All leading up to the release of "Can You Hear Us?" on Sixsteps Records, a relatively new label aimed at giving authentic worship leaders like David Crowder, Chris Tomlin, and Charlie Hall a voice in the wide open market. My point is that the David Crowder Band just didn't appear because of a rise in worship sales, but more from a love for God and a desire to share this love with others.
