This is who I Am Jody McBrayer, the distinguished Avalon tenor, has set out on new ground with his new solo debut. This record is the result of a vision of Jody’s which came to him in 2000 after the sudden death of his father. Jody felt the need to provide music for non-believers who would usually shy away from Christian records. Although Avalon has a mission statement, Jody believes that the music on his newest project is on a more personal level, one too personal for a group to perform. McBrayer co-wrote many of the songs on this cd, and uses a wide-range of styles from R&B to rock to pop to music which uses his Spanish heritage. His rock solid voice has many different qualities and each style brings out a different shade in Jody’s emotional palette. His energy can be felt just by listening to his music. When Jody was younger, his dad used to wake him up every morning and ask ”What are you going to do today to change the world?” Jody used to shrug it off, but after his dad’s death, his mentor, and friend, he uses that question as a challenge. One that he is trying to do something about with this new debut. What a good challenge for all of us! My favorite track is “Love Can Break Your Fall.” It is not only applicable to the Christian family, but it is a great track for non-believers as well. Everyone has felt heart-ache, and he provides a different perspective on how to look at it. - Amanda M. |
