Who Are We?

Wisdom's Cry

This Is The Beginning
Wisdom's Cry
Mission House Music Group

This vocal group of three twenty-somethings has its heart in the right place. Interestingly, this is a re-release according to the group's web site. Stylistically, the group could be compared to Avalon and Point of Grace, having an adult contemporary sound. Also, the group isn't making its living through recording and touring... yet.

Lyrically, there is nothing profound here, but you know exactly where the group is coming from, with songs about God's love for us; "For This He Died," "Child of God," how God can change us; "Seasons Change," "This Is The Beginning." There isn't any doubt in any of the ten tracks where the group stands as Christian artists.

The groups harmonies shine in the song "Undeniably Blessed," while "Falling" has a very pretty piano accompaniment. "U.R.Y." a ballad, is Wisdom Cry's second radio single. Its received some airplay, according to the groups web site. "Triumph" struck me as an excellent song to close a worship service. It has more of a pop feel with an almost-country like violin.

At times the groups singing suffers from the dreaded "extra-syllable" emphasis. "E-e-e-e-yes," "diiiiiiii-ed," "driiiiiiied," "s-o-o-o-o-o." Just because everyone on "American Idol" does this does not mean that it's good singing.

This CD did grow on me after a few listens and Wisdom's Cry should be encouraged to pursue their musical ministry.
