Based On a True Story Sandtown is a children's community choir made up of home-grown talent direct from the New Song Arts program in Baltimore, MD. Sandtown has performed for a mayoral inauguration, sang the national anthem for the Baltimore Orioles, and played with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Sandtown has a brand of modern urban music all their own, and on "Based On a True Story" most of the songs are originals written by the group. Members of this illustrious group have gone on to graduate from the Baltimore School for the Arts. Sandtown is a great outlet for these neighborhood kids and with two independent releases the connection with Gotee can only help to bring them more attention. Guest on this CD include TobyMac, Michael W. Smith, Out of Eden's Lisa Kimmey, and more. One song that has gained them much attention is their rendition of U2's "Pride," featuring Michael W. Smith. However it's not the all star guest that make this project exceptional; it's the kids and their stories of life in an urban community that is similar to others across the country. Natural talent and growing spirits abound. - Ken W. |
