Jilleen California-based Jilleen Butler has released a pleasant worship and praise project that would fall into the adult contemporary category. The opening track "He's Alive," is uplifting, almost bouncy while "I Rejoice" follows in a similar vein. Jilleen's strong vocals handle a key change in the chorus with aplomb. The traditional "Be Thou My Vision" has a very appropriate simple arrangement. She also sings some of the verses in Japanese, demonstrating that the praise and worship of the one true God is universal in any earth-bound language. Jilleen covers Avalon's "In Not Of." It seems an odd choice for a cover as I don't think its one of Avalon's better songs. Also, instead of attempting in any way to make this uniquely her own, it's a carbon copy of Avalon's version. The title track is a hodgepodge of disco, funk and R&B. I could live without the faux rap of the verses. This CD included information about the San Dimas, CA based LIFE Ministries. It notes that Japan, with a population of 127 million, is less than one-half of one percent Christian. Japan then, is a contemporary example found in Paul's message of 1 Corinthians 14: 11-12. - Rob S. Home Page: jilleen.com |
