My first thought was that The Boy vs the Cynic was more serious and less tongue-in-cheek than his other albums. The messages come across with more depth and urgency, and John’s emcee styling has evolved into that of a “professional rapper”.

The Boy vs the Cynic was produced by John Reuben and he presented Gotee with material that he thought was more challenging, serious and introspective. The final product results in an honest assessment of Reuben’s experiences. The Boy vs the Cynic has allowed Reuben to showcase his writing and emcee abilities in a whole new way.
