The Martins Even Christian artists seem to come and go (and sometimes make a comeback) but The Martins celebrate their 10 years in music by releasing a greatest hits disk. “Decade” reflects the musical range of the group, from the country and western of “Out of His Love” to the Andrew Sisters-like approach on “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho” (which was previously only available on the Big Band Hymns compilation project) and a pinch of acapella on “Gentle Shepard.” There’s little doubt where The Martins are coming from lyrically, as many of the songs here are hymns or hymn-like. The disk does include the previously unreleased “Be Still My Soul,” which would fit right in on a Steve Green record. The group’s PR material notes that over the years one of The Martins “hair-raising” songs is “The Doxology.” For some inexplicable reason, the song is not on this disk. Note the running time of this disk. There’s a ton of music here. - Rob S. |
