Since his self-titled debut back in 2000, Mark Schultz has been considered one of Christian music’s most prolific song writers. His songs are emotive and deeply intimate. Each one tells a personal story from Mark’s life and on “Live A Night of Stories & Songs” the listener can have a personal testimony of his greatest stories. His God-given talents will surely someday put him in a similar position as Mercy Me’s “I Can Only Imagine,” or Newsongs’ “Christmas Shoes.” Actually, with his song “Letters from Home,” Schultz has already received the attention of the United States Army. The Army contacted Mark shortly after the release of “Letters from Home” and asked Mark to make a video for their use. The live CD and DVD was filmed and recorded at the Marion Civic Center located in Marion, IL. Some of the key tracks include “When You Come Home,” “Back In His Arms Again,” and “He’s My Son.” In between songs Mark shares the meaning of the song and occasionally offers a bit of humor – as was the case with the end of “When You Come Home.” The most touching story of course is about the young boy from Mark’s youth group that was diagnosed with Leukemia. It was this terrible event that spurred on the song “He’s My Son.” The song ends with a blessing as Mark explained that the young boy he wrote about is now 21 and cancer free.

Mark also shares a new song that is still in the process of being written. The song is titled “Walking Her Home” and as a husband it will surely make you cry. I can only pray that I’ll have this kind of relationship with my beloved when I’m 90 plus years old and in a nursing home.

“A Night of Stories & Songs” is so amazingly intimate and personal that you will feel like you are right there in the living room sitting with Mark just talking about life. Mark Schultz is incomparably gifted as a storyteller and this CD/DVD set is an excellent collection of his work to date, and a good indicator of the great things to come.
