Red Umbrella This album really makes me sad. Not because it’s horrible, on the contrary, it is quite pleasing. It makes me sad because reading the lyrics remind me of how much time I throw away dreaming about could-have or what-if and not really doing anything to affect a real change in my life. Not that dreaming is bad, I do not believe that is the message at all, but there are a lot of themes that run through “Wishing For Boardwalk” about our longing for a purpose in life, and sometimes, we miss that purpose as we try to walk through life alone. When all we really have to do is go home into the arms of God and his “Saving Grace.” “Saving Grace” is just one of the many songs on “Wishing For Boardwalk” that will blow you away. The writing is incredibly insightful and meaningful. Musically the band wishes to be original, however there are references that come to mind. Like a mix between Taylor Sorenson’s vocals and The Swifts pop-rock sound. It’s a great soundtrack that really accentuates the poignant lyrics. Red Umbrella’s debut has been released to the CBA through Provident-Integrity Distribution and in the general market through SONY BMG towards the end of the summer. Their label home is 7 Spin Music, Inc that is based in Valparaiso, Indiana. 7 Spin is an independent label that began in 2003 and is the current home to Playdough, Sevenglory, Riley Armstrong, and of course, Red Umbrella. - Ken W. |
