Ginny Owens If You Want Me To – The Best of Ginny Owens Rocketown Records
Brimming from a vibrant career, “The Best of Ginny Owens” is a prized treasure of select favorites from a long list of wonderful songs. Owens’ music has earned her acclamations from Dove Awards to national attention on mainstream television. Additionally, the famed singer-songwriter has taken her gift and more importantly, profits of that gift, and used them to start the Fingerprint Initiative in 2005. Through this organization, Owens has supported the ongoing work of Habitat for Humanity and more specifically the recovery efforts of Hurricane Katrina, which has now passed its one-year anniversary.
The breakdown of “If You Want Me To,” includes two new tracks “Wonderful Wonder” (a remake) and “Open Arms.” Additionally, I was surprised to hear “Remember Me,” a duet with Mark Schultz. To me this song seemed unlikely because Ginny’s role was that of a supporting artist and not the primary singer on the song. However, her amazing vocals proved to be a beautiful asset to the overall feel of the song, and as an artist she is certainly due to be recognized for this effort on her own greatest hits album.
Although I am grateful to have such a collection of Ginny Owens’ inspiring career, I have been reflecting on the trend of greatest hits lately, (See Lampa, Velasquez, and Mullen). The aforementioned artist and Ginny Owens herself have contributed so much to the success of Contemporary Christian Music as an industry during a time when things began to tighten up financially across the market. Their individual efforts have not gone unnoticed and hopefully, none of these compilations mark the closing of any of their respective contributions to the world of Contemporary Christian Music.
As a side note. The Ginny Owens compilation comes with a short DVD that features live performances and a few moments of Ginny’s stories.
