Jerimae Yoder

“vertical”

IBB Records/TAG Artist Group

13 tracks @ 48:18

Jerimae Yoder is the son of a Mennonite father and a mother who grew up Amish.  His PR describes his sound as “Modern Acoustic” while he lists some of his influences as Beck, Wilco, MuteMath, Derek Webb, Flaming Lips, Phil Keaggy, Jars of Clay and Damien Rice.

I liked this record.  From the swirling, atmospheric instrumental “Intro,” to “Jam (w/Toast),” Yoder is able to blend together acoustic guitar with electronic elements that results in a fairly unique sound. “Not in Vain” is a grinding rocker that sounds like Michael John Stanley while “Soul Son” has a hint of the Steve Miller Band.

Nor does he hide behind generic lyrics. “Evidence” includes, “I shake with fear, I didn’t know you see me bare.”
