Big Daddy Weave “Every Time I Breathe” Fervent Records 11 tracks @ 42:34
Big Daddy Weave makes very nice, uplifting pop-rock music with Christ-centered lyrics. Their newest disk is no exception. According to their PR material, Big Daddy Weave is rooted in the understanding that “It isn’t about the greatness of our songs, but the greatness of the God behind the songs.”
The single, “Let It Rise,” with its thundering bass, is an awesome song, appropriate for worship settings. “Only Jesus” is another uplifting song with some subtle keys underneath; it features the lyrics “only Jesus can rearrange every part of me. . .come be seen in me.” “All For You” is another buoyant number.
The band’s cover of Rich Mullins’ “Hold Me Jesus,” is pretty straightforward but adds the nice, but all-too-brief, touch of a children’s choir.
The band also stretches a bit on “Who You Are To Me,” with a tasteful piano and backing vocals from the rest of the band.
On previous releases, I’ve loved how Big Daddy Weave uses the saxophone. However, on “All the Same” there are some awkward transitions between the sax during the instrumentals and the verses, until the sax is allowed to soar half-way through the song. On “Trust and Obey,” the sax seems to be thrown in at the end of the song.
Other than those quibbles, this is another solid effort and comes recommended.
