There is no doubt that Mark Shultz is one of today’s best singer/songwriters.  It is utterly amazing how well he mixes his poignant stories with equally moving vocals and with “Broken and Beautiful” it appears that there is no limit to his gift.   

“Walking Her Home,” a song that Mark has shared from the stage, is finally complete and available on “Broken and Beautiful.”  This is a signature song for Schultz as it has a balance of sadness and hope bundled in an emotive soundtrack.  “Everything To Me” reveals another personal side of Mark, as he has openly shared that he was adopted at just two weeks old.  The song is a telling tribute to a mother who is to this day still unknown to Mark, but that does not stop him from facing the difficult situation gracefully.  Lastly, I have to give mention to “She Is Watching.”  Although I have not personally experienced the loss of a job as depicted in the song, I can certainly apply the same principles of being a proper role model for my children when it comes to living a holy and pleasing life under all circumstances.

The news on his web site touts this as possibly the best album of Mark’s career.  I would counter that with the idea that such a gift cannot be outdone from one album to the next, all it can do is add to an already extraordinary collection of blessed songs.
