Carried Away

Carried Away

“I Want You”

Glide Records

12 tracks @  47:54

Grade - A-

Those who lament the retirement of Zoegirl should check out this Canadian version.  Carried Away won two Covenant Awards for their debut.

Themes on the trio’s second record include God is always there (“Just Believe”); live your life for God (“Smile”); and there’s more to God than we’ll ever know (“Mystery”).

Pam Walker says, “We’ve basically used our experience up to this point  to encourage young people and really let them know how your life can change for the better with God in the center of it.  What are you putting into your life, and more importantly, do you want God in your life?  It’s a huge decision, but getting to know Him is our ultimate message.”

Like BarlowGirl, the trio has taken a stand on sexual purity (“Been Wasting My Words”).

Colleen Walker says, “A lot of time people say our music is anointed. They tell us the music and the songs are coming from an honest place and that through being ourselves, they are encouraged every time they go away from a show.  We think that’s the greatest and highest compliment but God deserves all the glory.”

“Alive” is the strongest statement of faith on the record and, in fact, makes a great worship song.  It reminds me of the best of Point of Grace.

Carried Away also sings the traditional hymn “Holy Holy Holy.”  The beginning is done acappella and is very pretty but then is dragged down by some unnecessary sonic effects.
