            While browsing through MySpace I came upon Katie Nelson’s profile.  I was first impressed by the fact that she was from my home state of Wisconsin, but more impressive was the quality of her music.  There were samples of her upcoming release “Speak To Me” on the site, which prompted me to contact her and request a review copy of the CD.  A little backwards compared to how most review copies come in, but it was something I did not want to miss.  It was also a project that I wanted to let others know about. 

In comparison, Katie sounds similar to Lori Chaffer (Waterdeep) and her writing is comparable to Sarah Groves, however, Katie stands on her own as an admirable singer/songwriter.  Her vocal range is much wider than most so there is absolutely no droning on from song to song. The songs themselves range from AC to Worship or a combination of both.  The soundtrack includes a full-band as well as additional string that fully enhances Katie’s amazing range of vocals.  Overall it raises the bar for other independent artist.

The end product is a well-produced CD with upbeat songs that are inspirational and creatively enticing.
