Become Who You Are

BEC Recordings

Grade – B+

I was impressed overall with “Become Who You Are” and I find that it is a brilliant arrangement of rock and grace.  The message of hope, healing, and dealing with everyday life circumstances come out well in the song writing.  The music is solid and quite excitable at times.  Not too heavy, but very upbeat.  However, the one song that I find myself really hooked on is the ballad “Where Your Heart Belongs.” The significance of the songs comes from shared experiences of pain, loss, and general pondering of life and faith.

“Become Who You Are” is the sophomore release for Mainstay.  The band’s format is primarily modern rock however they can and do crossover into worship and ballads.  Aside from the first single, “Believe,” the band is primarily responsible for song writing. With “Believe” they enlisted the assistance of fellow BEC artist Jeremy Camp.

With a message of hope, Mainstay delivers a highly respectable project. The real value of the CD lies in what the PR materials refers to as its “spiritually-driven rock.”
