David Phelps “No More Night: Live” Word Records DVD/CD Grade - B-
This is a follow-up to the live release “Legacy of Love.” The upside to this is that a CD version of the concert is included.
This concert opens with the rousing but generic “No Place.” Phelps is a powerful vocalist; therefore I could not understand the mix on “My Jesus I Love Thee” and “He Looked Beyond My Fault,” as Phelps voice is almost overrun by the other instruments.
I liked the lyrics to “Live is a Church,” about which Phelps says we should not “confine God to Sunday morning.” I also liked “That’s What Love Is.” “Second Fiddle” reminded me of Charlie Daniels. “Revelation” is a great story song that reminds me of Carman, including the stage performance. However, the gimmicky scratchy-film look is not needed.
I always look forward to the extras on DVDs but the extras on this disk are useless. I also could live without some of the discussions that were shot at another location; they disrupt the flow of the concert. The CD does not have the long on stage chit-chat segments.
