Olivia The Band
Where We Come From It Never Snows
Up At Nite Records
Grade – B

The music is hot and very catchy, but the real gem here is the positive message. Everything that I have read talks about the desire to communicate the hope of the gospel. The very name of the band gives them much credibility on the subject of hope. The band is named after Justin’s sister who passed away about 17 years ago. Justin stated, “As a band, we want to encourage everyone that, through the roughest times, God is always in control, and if we keep our eyes on Him, something good will always come from it.”

On “Where We Come From…” the message of hope is delivered in a high-powered punk flavored style with pumped up anthems like “Are You Out There,” “Sunrise,” and “Never Snows.” The title of the new album is representative of their home state Hawaii. Aside from ”Never Snows,” “808” and “Sunrise” also are memoirs of their home state. Then there are more personal songs as well, like “Letters In White Lines,” which is about a friend of the band who was in the grips of a drug addiction when she wrote “God help me” in cocaine and from there started her road to recovery by reaching out to God for help.

“Where We Come From It Never Snows” is the bands second release, but the first on the relatively new label Up At Nite Records. Their upbeat delivery of such a great message of hope is refreshing. For more on the band check out http://www.upatnite.com.
