Children 18:3 A rural, mid-west, farm raised, punk rock family. None of this is very common in the music industry and that is to their benefit. The family of Children 18:3 is brother David (lead vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist), sister Lee Marie (bass and vocals), and brother Seth (drums). The wild appearance of this family unit is equally matched by the wildly high-powered rock and roll of their music. The bands label debut on Tooth & Nail is much more refined than their independent release, “Places I Don’t Want to Go,” which shows maturity and growth. The press materials state that it is hard to pick just one or a few lead tracks and I tend to agree as each track is unique and all of them are pretty pumped up with an energetic soundtrack. One thing I did like about their independent release was a song called “Bridge” where Lee Marie took the lead on the vocals. On their label debut she puts in a great effort on backing vocals and an occasional lead, but nothing like “Bridge.” As a live act they do grab your attention and they have been gaining rapid moment playing local shows and festivals. Having seen them personally (several times) I can attest to their work ethic. As a new act partaking in a large festival it takes a lot of footwork to get attendance at your show and they proved to be very successful and determined in this regard. The release of their debut on a widely popular label known for genuine quality will surely help Children 18:3 to gather a stronger fan base. Hopefully though they will still hold true to their Midwest roots and return to do many shows in the area! • Ken W. |
