Fireflight The latest from the Orlando based Fireflight hit the stores recently with both the album title and opening track being “Unbreakable.” As a single, the title track is the highlight of the entire album, and it has even been featured on an NBC promo for the “Bionic Woman.” The CD lives up to what I expected following their powerful label debut. However, I found that the majority of the album had less of an edge compared to their debut, but overall Unbreakable is solid. The positive elements of the CD include both the general message and the powerful vocal delivery from Dawn Richards. The supporting band, bassist Wendy Drennen, guitarists Justin Cox and Glenn Drennen, and drummer Phee Shorb, do a first-rate job of backing her up as well. The artwork on the cover and insert has more edge though than the overall sound of the album. I’m not sure where the concept is coming from, but it’s very dark and Dawn’s piercing gaze emphasizing the light blue eyes just down right freaks me out! Top songs aside from the title include “The Hunger,” “Stand Up,” and the power ballad “Wrapped Up In Your Arms.” One thing is certain, although I would rate this slightly lower than their debut; I still believe that Fireflight is an amazing band. Last year they put on one of the best live shows I have ever seen. I hope to catch another live show again this year and I think the new material will fit in just fine. - Ken W. |
