Kathleen Carnali's latest release, “Dangerous Prayer,” has been an enjoyable surprise. I had preconceived notions based on the album title and the ministry focus of her web site. I assumed that the album would be a conservative congregational worship album. However, what I found was the album was quite interesting and even electrifying at times. The sound may have been influenced by producer Ian Eskelin, but Carnali gets all the credit for the contents with only a few songs that were co-written with others. Carnali's air of creativity and steadfastness to the CCM format is admirable. My favorite song is “More Popular Than Christ” where she takes a whack at our obsession with idols in a challenging, but non-confrontational manner. That's just one example on album full of gems.
