Alien Youth: The Unplugged Invasion
Skillet
Ardent Records

Skillet's first DVD "Alien Youth: The Unplugged Invasion," isn't completely unplugged (Korey is still plugged in with her keyboards), but it is wholly and completely awesome! Recorded live before a small audience of youth at the Ardent Studios in Memphis, Skillet jams on a handful of hits; Alien Youth - One Real Thing - Kill Me, Heal Me - You Are My Hope - and Best Kept Secret (from Invincible).

With the sudden wave of remix CD's out there I was more than pleased to see Skillet take a different direction. Unplugged is a fad of the past, but it's still very effective. Isn't it amazing that a band that is known for it's industrial rock is the same band that recorded a live Worship album, "Ardent Worship: Skillet," and now "The Unplugged Invasion."

DVD extras include a gallery of photos, a Bible Study with John Cooper, and a Q & A session with John covering peer pressure, divorce, and mainstream music, and the video for "Best Kept Secret."

I don't know who started the remix craze but I'm hoping Skillet will revive the unplugged sessions that MTV made popular in the past. When you take away the amps, guitars, and laser lights, you're left with the heart of the music and the performer.
