Flicker Records, home to Pillar, Stereo Motion, and T Bone, have launched a new company called Big House Kids. This label will focus on the creation of children's products that communicate the love of Christ and Biblical foundations. They will do this by using music, video, interactive games and live tours.

It may seem odd that such a company would be born out of a label known for hard rock and rap, but President and co-founder of Flicker, Bob Herdman says, "The fact is, we all either have our own kids or are really involved in the lives our families."

There is a science to some of this also, as there was over a year of research in the educational and developmental aspects of music for infants and toddlers. During their research they discovered statistics that on a typical day, almost half (42 percent) of children 6 months to 2 years watch a video or DVD. Attached to this are numerous studies of brain development as it relates to video and music.

Big House Kids first release is The Praise Baby Collection - Praises & Smiles. There is both a CD and a DVD/VHS. The DVD/VHS highlights a variety of vivid images, including toddlers, swimming clown fish, and dogs set to the soundtrack of worship favorites, including "You Are My All In All," "Shout to the Lord," and "Open the Eyes of My Heart."

As an experiment I've played the Praise Baby DVD (several times) for my seven-month old daughter. Every time, the video has had an instant calming affect on her. Additionally I believe that hearing these praise and worship songs is helping to soak her developing mind in scripture and goodness.

In September of 2004, Big House Kids plans to release Heaven & Earth as a follow up to Praises & Smiles. Check out their web site at www.PraiseBabyCollection.com.
